Passive House Kelowna: Stylish Modern Single Family Residence aiming to become the 1st certified Passive House in the Okanagan Region
Marken Design + Consulting has submitted the building permit package for this design driven, modern themed Passive House which is slated to commence construction in May on a view lot in Kelowna, Okanagan.
Aiming to become the first of it’s kind in the region, our design team has worked closely with the certified Passive House builder PRIME HABITAT to achieve a unique and beautiful home challenging the Passive House metrics in a climate with wide temperature ranges (hot summers/cold winters), carefully balancing the window placement to accommodate the beautiful Northern views towards the Okanagan valley and at the same time harvesting the necessary Southern Solar gain.
We were able to achieve the energy and comfort requirements by fine-tuning each step of the design using the PHPP (Passive House Planning Program) and by utilizing optimized window glazing offered by Freisinger Optiwin windows, still keeping the construction costs for this smaller sized home affordable.
The main features include:
- Ultra Efficient Heat Recovery Ventilation System
- Subsoil Heat Exchanger – preheat and precooling the ventilated air
- Triple Pane Wood Windows
- Open Floor Layout
- Modern Themed Architecture
- 9 to 12 foot Ceilings
- Lot’s of Natural Light
- Ribbon Style Overhangs for Solar control
- and more
